Sri Lanka beat New Zealand by D/L Method

Sri Lanka beat New Zealand by 14 runs under the Duckworth/Lewis method in the rain-hit second one-day international played in Pallekele Stadium.

after winning the toss, New Zealand made 250 for six in their allotted 50 overs at Pallekele International Stadium. Captain Ross Taylor led the batsmen with 72 and he was well supported by BJ Watling (55), Rob Nicol (46) and James Franklin (35 not out).

In reply, Sri Lanka reached 118 for three in 22.5 overs when the rain halted play, well above the 104 runs required under the Duckworth/Lewis method.

Sri Lanka lost Upul Tharanga very early but Dilshan and Mahela Jayawardene got together to frustrate the visitors and deny them any further success. 

Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardena anchored his side's response with an unbeaten 43 from 49 balls including five fours. He added 59 for the third wicket with former captain Tillakaratne Dilshan (37) who became the third player to reach 1,000 ODI runs for 2012 after team mate Kumar Sangakarra and India's Virat Kohli. 

Next match on Tuesday (06) were switched to Pallekele after heavy rain in Colombo left the original venue, the R Premadasa Stadium.the first two matches of the tour were abandoned because of rain.

Sri Lanka to ban high lead content paint

The laws are to be strictly implemented from January 01, 2013.

The Sri Lankan government has taken steps to minimize the lead levels in the paint sold in the Sri Lanka.
The Consumer Affairs Authority has published a Gazette order on September 30, 2011 regulating permissible maximum lead content on paints and accessories.
The order specifying the maximum permissible levels of lead is applicable to the imported paint as well as to the locally manufactured paint. The laws are to be strictly implemented from January 01, 2013.

The Association of Paint Manufacturers of Sri Lanka have agreed to abide by the law and they say that they have already started to maintain the lead levels even below what is specified by Sri Lanka Standards Institution.

The Gazette states that no manufacturer, importer, packer, distributor or trader shall manufacture, import and use or distribute, pack, store or sell or display for sale, expose for sale or offer for sale, wholesale or retail any paints unless such paints shall conform to the corresponding Total Lead Content specified by the Sri Lanka Standard Institution for such paints.

Permissible maximum lead content in paints for toys and accessories for children should be 90 mg/kg (ppm), Enamel Paints 600 mg/kg, Emulsion Paints for Exterior use 90 mg/kg, Emulsion Paints for Interior use 90 mg/kg and Floor Paints 600 mg/kg.

Sri Lanka collected 26 points with three goals and a try while China managed to score a solitary try. Sri Lanka led at the half time with scores of 21-5.

SL vs NZ ODIs move to Pallekele from Colombo

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced The second and third One Day Internationals  matches between Sri Lanka and New Zealand scheduled to be played at the R. Premadasa stadium in Colombo on November 4 and 6 have been  moved to the Pallekele stadium in Kandy.

The next matches on Sunday and Tuesday would now be played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy.
Heavy rain prevented any play in the first ODI between the two sides at Pallekele on Thursday while a one-off Twenty20 match in the same arena ended without a result after just 16 overs could be bowled due to weather disruptions.

Sri Lanka Cricket announced that the opening One Day International between Sri Lanka and New Zealand was called off without a ball being bowled due to rain in Pallekele,Sri Lanka on Thursday.

The T20 international between the teams was also a washout, after only 16 overs were bowled.

Colombo will host the next two one-dayers of the five-match series on November 4 and 6 and Hambantota the last two on November 10 and 12/2012.

New Zealand and Sri Lanka will also play two Tests after the one-day series.
